Gary Falk: Untitled
January 15 – March 16 1983
For his installation, Untitled (1983), Gary Falk painted large-scale graphic linear images directly on both the interior wall and the outer glass of New Museum’s window. Painted in intensely bright colors, the images were in high contrast against the black background. Falk’s work was presented in a simple straightforward manner geared to immediate visual access to the passerby. Because the images were so basic, so middle-class, and so familiar, they appeared to be innocuous at first, even playful, but they also took on an ironic cast.
