Prologue: “Exhibition Machines,” Philippe Vergne and Paul Chan
As we face a moment of exhibition and curatorial inflation, are exhibitions—their space and their time—the ultimate venue or language to represent what artists do? How can a museum or gallery provide artists with what they need? Can a work of art resist the exhibition model? Is an exhibition a language or a space? Is there a life after the exhibition? Can we experience art and representation beyond the exhibition?
The Now Museum: Contemporary Art, Curating Histories, Alternative Models is organized and supported by the New Museum, Independent Curators International (ICI), and CUNY Graduate Center.
Education and public programs are made possible by a generous grant from Goldman Sachs Gives at the recommendation of David and Hermine Heller.
Endowment support for education programs is provided by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Skadden, Arps Education Programs Fund, and the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fund for Education Programs at the New Museum.
