Mary Lemley’s fanciful and imaginative “Party Dresses” inaugurated The Window series of installations. Made of tissue paper, cellophane, ribbon, tape, and painted with acrylic paints, Lemey’s work confronted contemporary painting as well as fashion issues and questioned their separation. Although she had not been formally trained in fashion design, Lemley’s love of clothes and color schemes ultimately led to her collection of wearable party dresses which were also shown in fashion shows at 515 Broadway, 1 University, and Hurrahs.
