United States of Palestine-Israel: Presentation and Discussion with Joshua Simon, Ohad Meromi, and Ingo Niermann
September 17 2011

A book presentation and conversation between Ingo Niermann, Ohad Meromi and Joshua Simon based on their solutions in the book the event will be accompanied by archival materials from the United Kibbutz Movement.

Aiming to solve what it saw as a 2000 year old problem, Zionism envisioned a homeland for the Jewish people. In the midst of this national movement, a project of an even greater ambition – to leave the ancient social structures that were formed after hunter-gatherers begun to settle - envisioned a society beyond private property: the Kibbutz. From educational campuses for reconciliation and peace, to school for unlearning property, through an archeology of utopia, this session aims to reintroduce the potentials of the kibbutz.

Solution 196–213: United States of Palestine-Israel by Joshua Simon (Ed.) is an anthology of texts proposing exceptional solutions for the region. With contributors based in Ramallah and Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Beirut and Jerusalem, New York and Bethlehem, Nazareth and Warsaw, the book offers plans and speculations to make life better, and proposes ways to do it. These proposals are articulated against an ongoing stagnation of the territorial proposals of Israeli unilateral disengagement plans and the “Two State Solution”. With contributions by Tal Adler/Osama Zatar, Asma Agbarieh-Zahalka, Maayan Amir/Ruti Sela, Ariella Azoulay, Yael Bartana/Sebastian Cichocki, Raji Bathish, Itzhak Benyamini, Sari Hanafi, Sandi Hilal/Alessandro Petti/Eyal Weizman, Yazan Khalili, Ohad Meromi/Joshua Simon, Norma Musih, Ingo Niermann and Noam Yuran.
