The second installment in the Black to the Future program series, organized to explore issues of racial identity, “Alva Rogers in Performance,” presented composer and performance artist Alva Rogers performing a program of songs and monologues co-written and directed by Lisa Jones, with Charles Burnham on violin and Brandon Ross on guitar. Ms. Rogers’ work explored issues such as race, gender and popular culture. The performance included excerpts from “American Top 40,” which examine racial polarization within the American music industry.1
