New Museum First Saturdays For Families: Artist workshop with Nicolás Paris

February 4 2012

Join the New Museum and Nicolás Paris, a featured artist in the New Museum Triennial “The Ungovernables,” for a morning of interactive activities and drawing. Initially trained as an architect and primary school teacher, Paris reflects on the connections between drawing and learning, creation and dialogue, and education and reflection in his work. Workshops will take place in the 7th Floor Sky Room only. All galleries will be closed until 11 a.m.

Nicolás Paris was born in 1977 in Bogotá, Colombia, where he continues to live and work. Academically trained in architecture, Paris was a primary school teacher in Meta, Colombia, before pursuing a career as an artist. Paris’s work often draws on pedagogical strategy to incorporate elements of collaboration, dialogue, and exchange in his work, which is oriented around interests in architecture as a model, education as a system, and drawing as a tool. Paris has exhibited individually in Mexico, Colombia, and Spain. Recent group exhibitions include: “Model Kits,” Museum of Contemporary Art of Castilla and Léon, Spain (2010); “A Terrible Beauty is Born,” 11th Lyon Biennial, France (2011); “The Peripatetic School,” the Drawing Room, London, England (2011); and “Illuminations,” 54th Venice Biennial, Italy (2011).
