Nikhil Chopra: Character Creation
February 6 2010
Explore the exhibition “Yog Raj Chitrakar: Memory Drawing IX” and discover how artist Nikhil Chopra combines theater, portraiture, landscape drawing, photography, and installation to chronicle the world through live performance. In character as Yog Raj Chitrakar, a Victorian draughtsman, Chopra visited Ellis Island in early November to create large-scale drawings of the city and activated the Lobby Gallery of the New Museum by embodying this 1920s character. Participate in a theater workshop led by New Victory Theater Teaching Artists to create a character using physical presence, voice, and props—all inspired by Chopra’s exhibition and artistic process.
