New Museum First Saturdays for Families: Brion Gysin: Dream Machine

October 2 2010

Explore the exhibition “Brion Gysin: Dream Machine,” and discover how by working simultaneously in a variety of mediums, Gysin invented, collaborated, and subverted with considerable innovations that continue to influence musicians and writers, as well as visual and new media artists today. The exhibition includes over 300 drawings, books, paintings, photo-collages, films, slide projections, and sound works, as well as an original Dreamachine—a kinetic light sculpture that utilizes the flicker effect to induce visions when experienced with closed eyes. Create ink drawings inspired by Gysin’s work, giving abstract shape to your initials and transforming the letters into a personal glyph.

Museum First Saturdays for Families are free of charge. This program is designed and recommended for families with children four to fifteen years old, and includes free New Museum admission for up to two adults per family. Children under eighteen are always admitted free. No preregistration is required. Space is limited and tickets are given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Your entire party must be present; tickets will not be given to partial parties.
