b. 1977 Istanbul, Turkey

Emre Hüner’s works in film, animation, drawing, and installation deals with grand themes: humanity’s relationship with nature, ecological devastation, and the dialectical tension between technological progress and technologically-abetted ruin. In his animated video Panoptikon (2005) he mixes the dense, organic forms that decorate traditional Turkish textiles and ceramics with the post-apocalyptic sensibilities of science fiction. The video conjures up an alternate universe lush with threatening (and possibly intellegent) plantlife, and inhabited by monstrous creatures and obscene technologies that work in tandem towards seemingly nefarious ends. Like other artists in the exhibition, Hüner seems preoccupied with finding new ways to envision our future.
